StarCraft Patch 1.16 Now Available

Patch 1.16 offers some optimizations: “[StarCraft] now only uses as much CPU as it needs to run smoothly.” In-game chat (excluding whispers) is now saved in the replays. There’s some bug fixes and the removal of several exploits including Terrans drop-anywhere nukes and some additional Zerg exploits as well.

Here are the full notes:

Feature Changes

* In-game chat is now saved in replays. Note: whispers are not saved.
* Hitting the Escape key while in the chat room will clear your typed text.
* “/reply” (or just “/r”) will send a whisper to person who most recently whispered you.

Bug Fixes

* Fixed localization issues with “from” and “to” in whispers.
* Starcraft now only uses as much CPU as it needs to run smoothly.

Nintendo Feels All Grown Up, Changes Logo

Well, it looks like Nintendo is ditching their famous red logo, with the new gray one as pictured above. Probably the oddest story of the week, but here’s the press release (translated version):

Dear Media Partner,

For several years, a new generation of Wii and Nintendo DS games have adorned themselves with a new logo, in discrete grey.

In various publications the former logo, with red lettering, can still be seen. In the event that you have not already done so, we would like to sincerely ask you to now only use the current, gray Nintendo logo.

I always associated the red logo with “fun”, but the gray logo does look a lot cooler.

Will casual DS users buy the DSi?

This is a question that has been wandering through my mind for the past couple of days. Will casual gamers that have already purchased a Nintendo DS buy the DSi? I mean, the DS has done an amazing job at gathering an expanded audience of gamers, but does the DSi have what it takes to buy over current casual DS owners?

In case you didn’t know, the new DSi offers a plethora of new features and capabilities. On the front, is the new digital camera. You can take pictures with your DS, and you can save to an SD, using the new SD card slot that was included in the console. There is also integrated Opera browser with the DS, so whenever you’re near a Wi-Fi hotspot, you can connect and check your email, post to your blog, so on and so forth. With all of the new additions, Nintendo has gotten rid of the GBA slot at the bottom, to make the console lighter and smaller.

I personally think that it will because of the exclusive content that will soon be coming out on it, and with the camera and the added features, people will start to think of it as something more than a gaming system, and pick it up. What do you guys think?

LittleBigPlanet Not Doomed: Wins Sales Award

Wow, well I guess nobody should be afraid that LittleBigPlanet is going to sell badly, because the ESPLA Chart Track has given LittleBigPlanet a Silver sales award for November 2008. This award is givin to games that sell more than one-hundred-thousand units in that particular month. Congratulations LBP!!!

MS: “We are winning”

It’s kind of sad that Microsoft has to keep telling everyone how great they are, and how they are doing, just because their getting shit about the PS3 outselling it currently. Here’s what Microsoft had to say:

“As we enter our busiest selling season of the year Xbox 360 sales are not only exceeding our aggressive forecasts, but we are selling more consoles and games across the world than ever before,” Microsoft said.

“We are winning in Europe, outselling PS3 in the region and currently experiencing the strongest sales we have ever seen in Europe, and since our price drop… Xbox 360 sales have increased by five times, showing that European consumers are flocking to Xbox 360.

“For the first time, Xbox 360 is leading Southern Europe, outselling PS3 for three weeks in Spain and by 2:1 in Italy,” the company added.

Well, I think it’s completely fair to say that the 360 is going to win over the PS3 this holiday season due to the recent price drop, but when are they going to stop telling us how fucking great they are doing?

Some of you guys are just nuts man.

Has my little blog post- wherein (by the way) I trumpeted the greatness of BOTH a PS3 title AND a 360 title- really bothered enough people that they are back on this ‘my console, your console’ thing? I mean, what the hell? Can some of you people just get beyond it?

It’s a stupid fucking console. You made a choice- or your mummy and daddy made a choice- and bought you a fucking console to play games on. If you really waste ANY MORE energy giving a fuck about which console is better/best/etc…it’s like: man, one day you will look back and go: How did I spent more than 5 seconds thinking about that crap? Hell, my LIVING is determined by how well consoles do and I don’t spend 5% the time some of you guys/gals do thinking about this.

God of War 3 looks amazing- STUNNING. One of the best games I’ve ever seen. And yes, I’ve seen Crysis. It’s a totally different thing. Both are amazing. Gears plays and looks amazing too. There is ROOM for that in the world. Lot of talent in my business, thus, lot of great games. Live with it. Or don’t. Whatever.

Also, as to the way I look:

a- please post a more current picture. That was a few months after the hell that was directing GOD OF WAR. No time for the gym, no time for hair cuts. No time for anything. Tends to happen when you commit to something you love and give it your all. One day if you get a job that demands more of you than making sure the customer’s paper doesn’t land in the sticker bushes you may know what I mean.

b- Please post your picture so we can fuck with it in photoshop and make fun of it. I’m sure you’re a real looker.

c- And not to go there, but I just believe in pure honesty so I have to tell the truth: your mother didn’t think I was so ugly last nite. But then again, my cock was firmly in her throat and she was probably not looking at my face. MS Rep: they fed us to the lions

GamingConfidential reported about a week ago Microsoft customer service representative foresaw an outbreak of the Red Ring of Death (RROD) issue once the New Xbox Experience becomes available.

“I hate what the company did this year,” says the rep. “They released the New Xbox Experience a few days after the extended warranty period ended for most users and it’s tough to explain that to raging callers. How do you say that MS just screwed them all?”

He adds “our bosses really fed us to the lions this time. We’re getting everything from crying kids to death threats from angry adults. It’s an orgy, I tell ya.”

Wow, that’s all really heart-warming. I don’t think that Microsoft did this on purpose, it’s just the flaws that were in the New Xbox Experience themselves, and no one should be blamed (as long as they get this fixed).

Zune Phone Is Real, Codenamed “Pink”?

The Zune phone…a rumor that has floated around, and will continue to until it actually comes out. Jim Goldman from CNBC says that according to a good source:

Microsoft is “ready to give a major facelift to the company’s Zune music player that could mean its evolution into a new smart phone from the company.” The project is codenamed Pink and “will combine the company’s Zune and technology from Microsoft’s purchase of Danger Inc.”

Update: If this rings a bell, it’s because others have, in the past, referred to Microsoft’s mysterious consumer smartphone initiative as “Pink” or “Purple and Pink”

So is it coming out or not? We don’t know, but I guess we can just…wait and hope?

There’s a rumor floating around that firmware 2.53 for the PlayStation 3 is going to be coming out 11/26/08.
