Square Enix’s Sales Down 74%? Just Wait Until Dissidia Hits
Square Enix’s sales are down by 63%, as shown in a recent study. This was partly because the bulk of Crisis Core’s Japanese sales came in 2007, but it still sold well when it was earlier released in other regions this year. This dramatic drop in sales was also due to a lack of any other astonashing titles, which is where Dissidia: Final Fantasy comes in.
If you are a Final Fantasy fan at all, odds are you’ve heard about the game. The game is a celebration of 20 years of Final Fantasy and it will include characters from all twelve of the past Final Fantasy games. Also, the game is not your traditional Squeenix RPG, it’s a fighter!
Of course, everyone has their doubts that Square Enix can make a successful game in this paticular genre, but once they got their hands on it their opinion was changed greatly and since then.Character annoucements are keeping people almost as excited about this game as they were about Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII sold about 500,000 units in its first week in Japan, and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Dissidia completely eclipse that figure. Typical mainstream Final Fantasy games usually sell around 1,500,000 – 2,000,000 units on their first day, so expect Dissidia to sell somewhere in-between. I’m sure this will boost Squre Enix’s sales a little bit until Final Fantasy XIII.
