Want a phone with a touchscreen and widgets, buy the Samsung YP-P3

The Samsung YP-P3 is a solid followup to the YP-P2 portable media player. The user interface has obtained a big overhaul, along with some great new features.

The P3 is now made out of aluminum, the dedicated volume buttons or on the top, and there’s the addition of a small speaker and haptic feedback on the (capacitive) touchscreen, so it’ll vibrate when you tap it.

There’s pretty much a desktop environment on the P3’s home screen with movable, interactive widgets and icons and multiple screens a la the iPhone and T-Mobile G1. Icons can be dragged from a disappearing bar onto the desktop and back. The P3 shares the P2’s excellent 480×272 screen and hopefully its amazingly awesome sound quality as well. Below is a video comparing both the P2 and the P3.

  2. Yeah, I'm not sure there's much out there at the moment that can beat out the iPhone.
