DPrime Review: Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 5 is a third person survival horror game where you go to Africa to fight people who are infected with the uroboros virus. The main character is Chris Redfield and his partner is Sheva Alomar you are both members of the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) sent with Alpha team to take down a man suspected to be developing B.O.W.’s Irving. As in the last one this game also breaks away from the traditional Resident Evil game play by letting you control the camera, aim in all directions, and zoom in with your sniper. You can’t move and shoot at the same time and a lot of people complain about it but it doesn’t make a huge difference in the game play if anything it makes it more suspenseful. You can play co-op this time around you can also play with Sheva by yourself but she isn’t that helpful if you play on professional where do die in one hit by anything.

Resident Evil 5 has a really good story that has many secrets to be found and unlocked. They kept the game+ so you can bring all of your weapons, healing items, and ammo into your next play through and be well prepared for the harder difficulties. There are a lot hidden treasures scattered all around the story inside of trees, on stalactites, and even under the water. You use the treasures to upgrade your weapons firepower, capacity, reload speed, piercing bullets, and a few other powers. Once you upgrade a weapon all the way you can go to the bonus area and use points that you get after clearing a mission to obtain infinity ammo for the weapon you upgraded. If you upgrade the first of a certain weapon (like a pistol, shotgun, machine gun, rifle, or magnums) you will get the ability to purchase the secret version of the type of weapon you upgraded.
There four different difficulty settings but three of the four are not to far apart but then when you get to professional you have to really start being cautiouswith your every move. For the first time besides bosses enemies can wieldand use weapons against you which makes things even more difficult for you to avoid being hit. There are BSAA emblems hidden around the story in between poles, on top of water towers, and in between buildings that unlock collectible action figures you can look at and make it talk. Finally they brought back the famous enemy from Resident Evil 2 the licker and there are plenty of them to get angry at when they kill you right before a checkpoint.

Resident Evil 5 has a really good story and a lot of replay value (and you’ll need to like the story if you want to upgrade all of your weapons because you’ll be playing it over and over again). This game isn’t really very scary but it might make you jump at times. The multiplayer is really fun and will keep you occupied with its ten different characterswith their own guns and abilities. Its a definite buy for anyone who has been a fan of the series or who likes survival horror games.

The multiplayer on Resident Evil 5 is much different from most other games multiplayer modes. The multiplayer modes are Slayer, Survivor, Team Slayer, and Team Survivor. Slayer and Team Slayer is you run around the map with four people killing the zombies and semi bosses for points and if you want you can kill the other team to make them lose points. Survivors on the other hand is only killing the other people on the map for points and the zombies are just there to distract and interrupt your battles. In Survivors you also don’t start with weapons except a pistol or light machine guns and you are forced to find your weapons hidden around the map or inside of a semi bosses body.
What I liked:
- Replay Value: I played through this game at least six different times and I can still go back and help my friends beat the game and enjoy myself.
- Great Story: The story keeps you playing with its high amounts of quick times and epic boss battles.
- Co-op: For the first time they added co-op to a Resident Evil game and it worked out great and hopefully in the next installment they will make it longer and still have co-op.
What I didn’t like:
- Unclear Sometimes: Sometimes you could be fighting a boss and not know the true way to kill him, I know that I beat some bosses with shear power instead of thinking and killing them the way I was intended to.

Clap
Great review Jimbaba! I’ve played the game on the 360 but wasn’t a huge fan of it due to the controls, and the fact that it was only my second Resident Evil game that I have ever played.
