Square Enix has had a teaser site going on for a few days now, drawing a little piece of the puzzle at a time, adding a dragon, and then the boy, and today the girl riding the dragon.

ffg Square Enix Teaser revealed: A new Final Fantasy game

The game has been identified in advance today via the expected source: leaked scans from a major Japanese publication, Weekly Jump, which managed to get the scoop on Hikari no Yon Senshi: Final Fantasy Gaiden, or Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden (“Gaiden” meaning “Side Story”).

Final Fantasy Gaiden is going to be a DS RPG in which players take control of a teenage boy tasked with saving a princess. The game kicks off on your birthday as you’re summoned by a King whose daughter has been kidnapped by a witch.

In typical Final Fantasy Fashion, the game appears to be a standard JRPG:  menu-driven gameplay, with parties of up to four consisting of characters that you encounter along your journey. One thing to note in particular about the battle system, however, is the lack of MP and the presence of a “Charge” command next to standard fight and item commands.

There is a customization element built in as well, as eEquipment changes to your characters result in changes to physical appearance.

Final Fantasy Gaiden is due out in Japan sometime this Fall.

Jump confirms that the characters, as many have guessed based off the teaser site artwork, are designed by Akihiko Yoshida, who previously worked on Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII.
