Mayor who forced GTA ads off MBTA now appears in bus ads for ESRB
In November 2006, Thomas “Mumbles” Menino forced the removal of advertisements for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories from subways, trains, and buses operated by the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority). Menino also unsuccessfully pushed for video game legislation last year, the same legislation drawn up by gaming public enemy #1, Jack Thompson.
Today, it is with much irony that you can see Menino’s face all over Boston buses, thanks to the ESRB.

Last month, news broke that Menino was partnering with the ESRB on a public service ad campaign designed to raise parental awareness of the video game industry’s content rating system. The bus ads, like the one you see in the picture, are just a piece of that campaign which will also includes TV, radio, and outdoor print announcements.
Locally, the Boston Globe and Boston-based Joystiq blogger Alexander Sliwinski have both taken note of the appearance of Menino’s mug on local public transit. According to the Globe, the ESRB forked over $43,195 to the MBTA for the three-month bus ad campaign. Not that the riders will see any of that money…
Oh, and of course, Menino is running for re-election this year. Hopefully gamers with a vote in the city will finally tell Boston it’s time for a change. After all, this is the guy who tried to ban the Aqua Teen Hunger Force after the infamous “Boston Bomb Scare, 2007″

Clap
Ugh I so hate him. I really hope he doesn’t get re-elected. Even though I don’t live in the city I work there and cant’ stand him. He’s pissing off a lot of people so far so maybe Boston will get a mayor with a brain.
