Sony happy about the iPad, unfortunately people aren’t coming to the PSP
Yesterday, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata wasn’t really stoked on Apple’s recent announcement of the iPad saying that “It was a bigger iPod Touch”, Iwata told Associated Press, adding that the new device offered “no surprises”. I can’t help but agree.
Well, Sony has come out and expressed a lot of optimism and happiness about the device.
“Apple’s entrance into the portable gaming space has been a net positive for Sony,” Sony’s John Koller, Director Hardware Marketing, told the Wall Street Journal. “When people want a deeper, richer console, they start playing on a PSP.”
The only problem is…well, nobody is really coming to the PSP for a deeper, richer console there Sony. You were pretty close, but I think you meant to say the DS or possibly just not moving from the iPhone or Touch to begin with.
Nice try though.

It’s pretty cool that you don’t like to mention actual facts, like the one where PSP sales tripled in 2007 when the iPhone/iPod Touch was released. Way to be a blatant idiot fanboy.

maybe you’re right but that’s really sad. iphone is total crap for gaming. nintendo DS has quantity but everything is dumbed down for kids. psp is by far and away the best gaming experience for a mature gamer.

PSP to me has the best games period. Graphics, gameplay etc. But for 2010 sadly I only see 2-3 games I’ll be getting so far. That being Socom FTB3, and MGS Peace Walker. But I love meh PSP Go. A Jailbroken iTouch is also really cool. My bro has his hacked or something.

Wow, the amount of mentally challenged fanboys who can’t spell in here is astounding. The PSP is garbage, it always has been and it always will be. Which is why the DS trumps it in sales, because real gamers want real games.
Oh and for the moron who said “Everything on the DS is dumbed down for kids.” – yeah, Sony said exactly the same thing awhile back……a few weeks after saying that they brought out a purple Hannah Montanna PSP, LOL.
Who the hell buys a PSP for a rich experience? Anyone who wants real games will buy a Nintendo DS. Most of the half – decent games on the PSP end up getting ported to the PS2 anyway.

While it’s interesting to read Sony’s comments, the author’s opinion near the end was totally unnecessary–and uneducated.

LOL at David Macphail’s comment.
Dude, ds has a lot of games and a few of those are good, I wont deny that but those looking for a gaming experience that offers everything a current-gen gaming system has will want to go for psp which has gameplay unmatched by any other handheld.
A lot of ds games have that whole top-down view. It was acceptable during the gba days but now it just feels boring. It limits interaction, you can’t immerse yourself into the game and everything feels so meh.
Fine, a lot of psp games are watered down versions of the console counterpart but at least it performs around the same standard of ps2 at least.
Plus some other guy in the comments rightly said. Things are dumbed down on ds. Very true.
Unless you don’t mind settling for side scrollers or top-down games or at best, a very choppy and sloppy and glitchy and loose third person shooter, the psp is the way to go!

Oh and has anyone noticed that the ds is going downhill and the psp is going uphill?
Seriously, 2009’s been the psp’s best year so far(littlebigplanet, resistance, gta ctw, assassins creed bloodlines, dissidia, soul calibur, tekken 6, gran turismo, motorstorm, etc) and 2010 may be better!! (mgs peace walker, resident evil, socom ftb 3, valkyria chronicles 2, dantes inferno, duke nukem – oh and not a side scroller like the ds version lol, kingdom hearts, god eater, monster hunter diary, parasite eve the third birthday, etc)
Sooooo yeah, ds fans, get ready to sell that piece of garbage and buy a real handheld xD

Everyone has their opinions. I was just being sarcastic and whatnot in the article but oh well.
I have both a DS and PSP, and I enjoy the DS more. I pick up a lot of RPGs on the PSP though, and but most that you mentioned Grawwrr I would rather have a console iteration of, not saying that they would be bad on a PSP.
I’m pretty stoked on the DS’s upcoming release schedule actually, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, Pokemon Heart Gold & Silver, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Ragnarok Online DS, and others.

There’s no comparing apples to psp or ds’s. The ipad only real competition is probably the mac air. Now, ds IS a nintendo device, nuff said. The psp would have and will greatly improve IF sony were to finally start letting go of PS2 and but those energies into the psp, especially before the eventual psp2. Would also, be great to have better way to have psp (2 to 4 ad-hoc possibly shared) on a tv, minus the wires. Also, up grading the netfont os for web surfing being that weaker devices outperforms it so well(reminds of ps3 browser). Bumping up it support in such ways would do the wonders that sony is trying to spin. Each time greater support seemed evident it sold, everytime it didn’t it stagnated.
