From Software’s spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls known as Project Dark has been given an official name, the game will now be called “Dark Souls”. Imaginative bunch eh? Well that doesn’t really matter since the first details of the game sound utterly fantastic. Here is a list of the new features in Dark Souls taken from the latest issue of Fatmitsu.
The game will feature more exploration than seen in Demon’s Souls. The whole world will also be seamless, if you see something in the distance you can get there eventually.
The difficulty will be increased slightly, because obviously Demon’s Souls was too easy.
The game will have no map at all, just a positional marker.
The core game play will remain similar to Demon’s Souls so prepare to die, a lot.
The story is completely separate from Demon’s Souls and instead of working in a hub format the game will contain maps connected to the seamless open world as mentioned above.
The level design will be more complex.
Dark Souls is said to inspired by medieval dark fantasy, and containing themes like “high fantasy of kings and knights”, “death and the depths of the earth”, and “the flames of chaos.”
There will be more freedom involved in playing the game, the class system from Demon’s Souls will not be present and more weapons, spells and animations have been added into the game.
Co-Op and PvP will both return in Dark Souls in the same style as Demon’s Souls, once again you will be able to leave messages and laugh as someone falls to their death by following false instructions.
There will be no more soul tendency, due to the removal of dedicated servers and instead the game will focus on “mutual role playing” however more about that will be revealed later.
Well that’s all the information so far. Personally after loving Demon’s Souls this sounds even better, I must admit I’d almost forgotten about this game but now it is one of my most anticipated titles of 2011. Lets hope it releases this year as it’s already sounding amazing and I want to play it now!
