Modern Warfare 3 Makes $400 Million in 24 Hours

Say what you will about Call of Duty, good or bad, but there is no denying that the series is bringing in ridiculous amounts of cash and attention for Activision. So much so that on the first day of release for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the game made a ridiculous $400 million dollars in the US and UK regions combined.

Having moved about 6.5 million copies, Activision announced today that this was the biggest launch in entertainment history. Bobby Kotick even went as far to point out that Call of Duty managed to outsell other media giants such as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

They also used this brief moment of patting themselves on the back to announce that they’d be donating $3 million to the Call of Duty Endowment, a program that seeks to help and support veterans. It’s good to know some of that money is going somewhere good, at least.

But with five Call of Duty games out there since the Modern Warfare redesign, time will tell if they can manage to keep up this money train with the next game… don’t look at me that way, we all know it’s gonna happen.
