Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter Raises Over $1 Million

All of this in just about half a day.

UPDATE: The Double Fine Kickstarter has now raised over $1 million. Astounding.

——

Less than half a day. That is all it took for Double Fine to break new ground in the gaming world. Late last night, the company revealed that it would return to its roots and make a new point and click adventure game, properly dubbed Double Fine Adventure. There’s was a catch though, the fans have to make it happen.

Using the official Kickstarter page, the company was asking for a lot, $400,000 to be exact. With that $400,000 Double fine would create a brand new PC-based “point-and-click adventure using modern touch technology.” It turns out that fans were more than willing to help fund this new outing from the much beloved company.

The project is still accepting money for the next 33 days, but it took only around eight hours for the company to reach its goal of $400,000. As of the time of this writing the project currently has 13,372 backers and well over $500,000 dollars, with no sign of it slowing down. Double Fine is noting that all the extra money made will be “put back into the game” to help make things like a Mac and iOS version and better localization of the game around the world, as well as a special behind-the-scenes documentary on the creation of the project which will only be available to backers of the project.

I’ve reached out to Kickstarter to see how quickly the funding of this project compares to the funding of other projects, but haven’t heard anything back yet.

Congrats to the guys over at Double Fine, not only for getting the money they need, but for proving that fans can get games made.
