Slant Six, the developer behind the recent title Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, is downsizing. Slant Six confirmed to GameSpot that more than a quarter of their 96 employees were given the choice today between a severance package or a temporary layoff while the company looks for more projects. If the studio is unable to find new work for the temporarily laid off employees, then their benefits will stop and the termination will be permanent after 13 weeks. The company’s official statement read:
Regretfully, we can confirm that there have been some temporary layoffs at our studio. We must stress that these are temporary layoffs, which means we are working very hard on new business prospects so we can reinstate every single person affected. As an independent and close-knit studio it is a very difficult but necessary business measure due to the current project cycle demands.
The majority of the 26 affected employees did choose the temporary layoff while the other 70 employees continue work on two other projects, one of which is a brand new intellectual property called Strata Scavenger. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City was called a success by Capcom and as of March 31 had shipped over 1.7 million copies worldwide.
