thatgamecompany Goes Independent, Teams Up With Benchmark Capital

thatgamecompany was a Sony exclusive developer that brought many PlayStation 3 owners flOw, Flower and the fastest selling PSN title Journey. Now though, it seems that the company wants to explore new territory and share their creations through their own channels. With a little help from their new friends over at Benchmark Capital, the company managed to raise $5.5 Million to make their dreams a reality. As stated by Jenova Chen on the company’s website:

Today I am pleased to announce thatgamecompany has raised funding to develop and release our games independently. This enables us to bring our games to more platforms and provide our players the highest quality experience at every point of contact.

Chen went on to assure people that the next game they reveal will most definitely be a multiplatform title. Which is good because now more people can understand why people love thatgamecompany and their games so much. I’ll always be a fan of more people being exposed to great games.

We are very excited about our new adventure. Please stay tuned, as we look forward to sharing with you more details about our next game soon.

Good luck to those guys. I can’t even begin to imagine what the team at thatgamecompany have in development right now.

Kyree didn't have an N64 or Dreamcast as a kid (so sad) and he doesn't remember finishing any of his PlayStation games, but skip to the PS2/GC/Xbox era and everything changed. He hasn't been outside to play tag in forever, but he can recall playing way too much Smash Bros. and even more Kingdom Hearts; seriously, he can recite lines from it. I think he may have a problem.
