Project Cafe is WiiU

During Nintendo’s conference today, undoubtedly, the biggest piece of news was the long rumored new console, A.K.A. Project Cafe, which has been officially dubbed, the WiiU.  While I must say this is a horrible choice for a name, the device does look VERY impressive.  After a video showing how this would change the way we play games, Satoru Iwata, Global President of Nintendo, highlighted exactly what the new CONTROLLER would be capable of.

The new console looks quite similar to the original Wii, a white small box, but the HD graphics and integration of games with the new controller will garner an entirely new gaming experience, gimmicky or not, in 2012.

First Party Support will bring a new Smash Brothers game that will have cross-platform functionality between the WiiU and the 3DS.

3rd party support looks huge, EA, Ubisoft, 5th Cell, Vicarious Visions, Namco Bandai, THQ, Irrational Games, Disney Interactive, and more.  Darksiders 2, Tekken Wii 2, Batman Arkham City, Assassins Creed, Ghost Recon Online, Dirt, Aliens Colonial Marines, Metro Last Light, and Ninja Gaiden 3 are all confirmed to be in development.

I’ll be looking to post a video for the WiiU up shortly so that if you missed the conference you will have an opportunity to see the controller in action again, Nintendo has something quite interesting in their future, and I have a feeling it will be a success.
