The Last of Us Trailer

A trailer for the newly announced The Last of Us was revealed last night at Spike’s Video Game Awards. The Last of Us had rumors surrounding it for the last week after tweets from Geoff Keighly, Spike TV’s executive producer, said that there was going to be a new PlayStation 3 exclusive announced. According to Sony, this game will be “a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague.”

In a quote to Forbes, Evan Wells co-president of Naughty Dog said:

We are excited to finally unveil The Last of Us, a project the team has been working hard on for some time. Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. We are confident The Last of Us will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry.

The new trailer revealed last night detailed the new Naughty Dog title a little more. The trailer shows a father and daughter combination fighting off human-based monsters in a world that appears to be decimated by destruction. The combination is shown fighting another human and scavenging supplies, including bullets, from the defeated opponent.  The underlying theme of the game is clear by the female voice laid over the visual action:

This is our routine, day and night, all we do is survive. It never lets up.

The trailer ends with a shot of a downtown metropolis overrun by vegetation with abandoned cars and buildings. No timeline was released for the game, but we will hopefully hear more soon.
