Rumors are constantly swirling around the release date for Grand Theft Auto V. According to a Rockstar North character animator Alex O’Dwyer’s resume that was found by Joystiq, the new title is scheduled to ship in October 2012. Since the initial discovery the resume has been removed.
The holiday release window does make sense for such a huge title for Take-Two Interactive, parent company of Rockstar. An October release date would be well after the May 15th release date for Max Payne 3. However, the October release date would coincide with Take-Two’s other AAA title release, Bioshock: Infinite. Such a close release date could be detrimental to each games sales since they could be competing with each other and detracting from Take-Two’s total sales. There were also reports from different websites that a March 2013 release date was “likely” for GTAV since that would position the game far apart from other major releases – most notably the Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty franchises.
No official word has been given by Rockstar, so as of now, this whole thing is just an unsubstantiated rumor.
