Review | Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland

There’s been an interesting shift in small RPGs in this generation.  Some RPGs have shifted their focus from the warrior hero to the second or even third fiddles of the fantasy realm; shopkeepers, monsters, and even kings to name a few.  Other solid RPGs like Recettear and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King have proven successful by offering alternate approaches to the RPG and often shaking up the gameplay.  Atelier Meruru sets to join this pantheon while being both an alternative RPG and a traditional one by focusing on the role of combination princess/alchemist.  But can this princess synthesize her cake and eat it too?
