Sony taking jabs at Nintendo with new video (surprisingly enough it’s featuring Kevin Butler!)

The new commercials featuring Kevin Butler for Sony and all of it’s awesomeness have been pretty amusing. The latest one however, featuring the brand new, super freaking awesome creative amazing shit I can’t think of anymore adjectives yet to describe the PlayStation Move.

The video also seems to take a jab at Nintendo and the Wii, commenting on the features like boxing (which wasn’t even shown), the way the controller is used as a gun, and that it has buttons (shot at Natal). Man, this thing is going to be crazy! I mean, I’m sure they had this in the works before Nintendo even came out with the Wii and it became a huge success.

“That Last Metroid in Captivity” work is very classy

tumblr kzaiv1AhKD1qzp9weo1 1280 585x365 That Last Metroid in Captivity work is very classyBefore we showed you what we thought our top Metroid fan art was, and now we’ve got another piece via TinyCartridge by Patrick Prine. It has a very quaint and classy kind of look don’t you think? Definitely a different interpretation, but I really like it.

Sakamoto teases us with more statements about Metroid: Dread

40917 Metroid Dread Sakamoto teases us with more statements about Metroid: DreadWe all know about Metroid: Dread. The 2D Metroid game that was rumored who knows how long ago, with documents being leaked that listed the game as coming out, and people being super excited and wanting more. To end the story: we never got more.

Well Craig Harris at IGN got to talk to Metroid Producer Yoshio Sakamoto at GDC, and he had some interesting tidbits of information to tell us about the game:

“It’s always difficult when people bring up Metroid Dread. The only thing people have heard about the game are rumors. We never had an official announcement at E3 or anything like that. I think there was at one point where a little bit of information leaked, but now we don’t know how to really talk about the project. All I can really say is that I wish I could put an end to the rumors!

Oh, I’m not denying the existence of any documents that got out. What we’re doing right now, we’re waiting and watching and reading the comments to see what people are interested in before we make any comment on the project. So please be patient a little while longer.” - Metroid producer Yoshio Sakamoto

I’d really love another 2D Metroid game, as I’m sure a lot of you guys would. I loved both that graced the Gameboy Advance, and Super Metroid is my favorite 2D Metroid game to date. I hope they get the game off the ground, or better yet: have something to show at E3!

Can we have some more 5-0’s on our famicon games please?

It’s amazing what people can do on little skateboards. The guy in the video is using one to fingerboard across a bunch of old famicon games and the console. It’s chalk-full of 5-0’s, tailslides, nollie bigflips, and much more. Now time to break out the full-sized skateboard!

Netflix has a question on a survey about it’s service…on the DS!?

netflix 585x200 Netflix has a question on a survey about its service...on the DS!?A poll from Netflix has a very odd question that points towards maybe it’s service expanding to the Nintendo DS, or just some thought into the prospect. Don’t believe me and can’t read the image above? Here’s exactly what the question says:

Imagine that Netflix offers its subscribers the ability to instantly watch movies and & TV episodes on their Nintendo DS. The selection available to instantly watch includes some new releases, lots of classics and TV episodes. There are no advertisements or trailers, and movies start in as little as 30 seconds. You can fast-forward, rewind, and pause or watch again. The movies & TV episodes you instantly watch are included in your Netflix membership at no additional fee.

So the service that’s on almost all platforms about now, just bite-sized. What do you guys think? I can’t imagine that they’d be able to get the whole thing running in a way that would allow videos to be streamed in a non-choppy manner, let alone at a high enough quality for people to be satisfied. I must say though, it would be damn cool if they could do it, and I would be more than stoked to hear them doing something of the sort.

Reggie doesn’t believe Apple’s a threat

dsi vs iphone full Reggie doesnt believe Apples a threatIn an interview with Forbes, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime reiterates many things, one of those being that Apple in the mobile sector is no problem with them at all, because they’re just no competition!

There’s been no data to suggest an encroachment on our business. The iPhone has been out on the marketplace for just a couple of years. In the last two years we’ve set two records on our DS business, last year selling over 11.2 million units. So there’s been no evidence that we’ve lost any business to that competitor.

Yeah we’re gonna have to agree with that. The iPhone and iPod touch are out there for the quickie games, that provide you entertainment for short little bursts. While it has the capacity to do “real” and longer games, that’s just not the audience that it caters do. This is why Apple is of now real competition to the DS line.

Super Mario furniture is very questionable

mario 1 diy shelves 585x877 Super Mario furniture is very questionable

Please, don’t make a comment asking me about the title if you didn’t get it. Anyhow, this is one of the better pieces of Mario or just gaming furniture that I’ve seen. It comes from Neatorama reader Dennis whose girlfriend, not surprisingly enough, made painted them all up.

Kudos to Dennis’ girlfriend on the shelves, and man he is one lucky man.

New Nintendo patent suggests a DS cartridge redesign, I say that cartridge looks damn ugly

cart6 New Nintendo patent suggests a DS cartridge redesign, I say that cartridge looks damn uglyLook above: that’s a picture of the new patent that Nintendo has filed for a new cartridge design, in what seems like a DS (some say it’s the successor, I doubt it).

You can click the link over to SiliconEra and see more pictures of the thing, but it’s pretty much an extended cartridge with an uplifted portion at the top. Now I guess this could be used for games that need more memory, processing power, I don’t know. Oh how the big N keeps us speculating…
