PS2 Classics to hit the PlayStation Store?
Original PlayStation games are already hit on the PlayStation Store, and rumors about PlayStation 2 titles hitting the service have been abound for quiet a while now. Well, PlayStation senior VP Peter Dille, in an interview with IGN tells us what he thinks about the possibility.
“From our side, we’re going through our own studio organization and trying to make sure all these old games are out there so that we can lead by example, but we’re also communicating with all the third-parties about the success of the Final Fantasy games, and other PS1 and PS2 classics,” Dille tells IGN. “By all means, I think people can look for more of that because once the third-parties see how this works, it’s just found money. There’s not a whole lot of work that has to go into it and once we can get it up on the network, it finds an audience pretty quickly.”
He also remarked that they PlayStation folks are “working really hard on” binging original and PS2 games to the service. Sounds almost like a confirmation to me.
Considering the remarkable backwards compatibility on the PS3 for PS2 games…wait, there isn’t any?
Seems like a viable way of bringing in some cash eh? I’ll be content with some Shadow of the Colossus and ICO in HD please. Thanks.

DPrime Retroview: Space Channel 5

Before rhythm and music games required large plastic accessories many games, like Parappa the Rapper, Vib-Ribbon, and Frequency, just used the normal controllers. Space Channel 5 is much like these titles as it also uses the standard controller. Released on the Dreamcast in 2000, Space Channel 5 was one of the titles SEGA released to try to broaden the audience of the Dreamcast. Their attempt brought to life a simple rhythmic dancing game with a futuristic style that is as unique as it is wacky. While the title is one of the many unique titles SEGA created for the Dreamcast, the question is should you be looking to add this title to your collection or not.

To celebrate 15 Years of PlayStation, Kojima Creates Unique PSPs
Wow, I wasn’t even paying attention, but as of yesterday, the PlayStation brand from Sony has been alive for 15 years. Congratulations to everybody at Sony for the accomplishment.
So you may be wondering how Kojima fits into all of this. Well, to celebrate the anniversary, him and Metal Gear artist Yoji Shinkawa signed white PSPs, and Shinkawa drew a picture of snake on his.
These are pretty sweet PSPs, let me tell you that. Especially if you don’t actually have to pay for them. So how do you go about getting one of these? Just pick up Vol. 460 of Dengeki PlayStation, and try your hand at the contest in there.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories coming to Wii on Dec. 8, Other versions coming “Shortly After”
Konami have just announced that Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will be coming to the Wii on December 8th, with the other versions of the game for the PSP and PS2 be released “shortly after”. This is a complete re-imagining and remake of the first game in the Silent Hill franchise. With a whole new interface for the game, different storylines, and all new features, this game is definitely going to offer up some good features for you horror fans out there. The question is, is the gameplay and story going to actually work out on the Wii, and have some good controls that aren’t just there to be there. But I guess we’ll see when we get there. I mean, you can’t get much worse that Ju-On: The Grudge.

Sega leaks Sony/Sega plans for PS3 and PSP

Apparently back on August 5th Sega and Sony sat down for a little chat. Sega recorded details about the meeting. Sega had a little slip up though, accidentally leaked out those very details. The details have been removed, but the damage has been done and we know all about what Sega and Sony talked about that day. Here is a wrap up of all the important details.
- Sega has plans to put Dreamcast titles on PSN
- Sony plans on putting PlayStation 2 titles on PSN
- Sony’s motion controller is currently set for a march launch window in Japan
- Sega plans on releasing titles on a “Import Section” of PSN
- Minimal localization (Subtitles and Translated menus)
- Specifically mentions Yakuza series for this service.
- Sonic Anniversary Collection, all the old Sonic Games on a single Blu-Ray disc
These details are just plans both companies had, so any of these listed could be scrapped or changed at any moment. At the very least it gives us an idea of what Sega and Sony plan on offering us in the future. Check out the full list over at Neogaf.

PS3 in Last Place in Japan
It looks like the PS3 isn’t doing so hot in Japan. With the DS and Wii tearing up sales in the game charts for reasons still unknown, the PSP is lurking in second place behind the DSi, and the Wii following. IGN has the official sales for both software and the hardware for the weeks covering 8/23 to 8/29.
- Friend Collection (Nintendo, DS): 80,000 (890,000)
- Dragon Quest IX (Square Enix, DS): 71,000 (3,794,000)
- Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, Wii): 46,000 (1,085,000)
- Dream Club (D3 Publisher, Xbox 360): 46,000
- Monster Hunter 3 (Capcom, Wii): 34,000 (836,000)
- Soul Calibur Broken Destiny (Namco Bandai, PSP): 29,000
- Super Robo Academy (Namco Bandai, DS): 28,000
- How Money and Things Work DS (Nintendo, DS): 21,000
- Monster Hunter Freedom Unite PSP the Best (Capcom, PSP): 18,000 (925,000)
- Haku Ouki (Idea Factory, PS2): 17,000
So yeah, software there’s no surprise there. Wii Sports Resort still kicking ass and taking names, Monster Hunter 3 still having a huge impact on everybody in Japan, and some Haku Ouki on the PS2 as well as more.
As for the hardware goes, the DSi continues to rise in popularity along with the PSP, and the Wii is in second place, so on and so forth, and PS3 in last surprisingly enough after the price drop, smaller and sleeker system, and the 40 extra gigs. I guess we’ll see how that decision for Sony plays out in the future.
- DSi: 59,881 (59,578)
- PSP : 26,081 (27,187)
- Wii: 25,038 (26,972)
- DS Lite: 7,304 (5,735)
- Xbox 360: 7,254 (8,979)
- PS2 : 3,179 (3,295)
- PS3: 1,040 (2,052)

Tetsuya Normura said that Square Enix was mainly going to focus on 2009. He didn’t lie as almost every title being shown, except FFXIV, is launching in 2009 for Japan. Here’s what we will see at TGS

Madden NFL 10 in stores now

Another year, another Madden game. Those looking to purchase the latest version of Madden NFL should be able to do so now nationwide. Madden NFL 10 is for the PS3, 360, Wii, PSP, and PS2. Aside from the PS2, DS has the most hardware out there, I’m still surprised that EA ignored the Nintendo DS this time around. For more information on Madden 10 or the Madden series check out the Offical Madden Website.
