Sony taking jabs at Nintendo with new video (surprisingly enough it’s featuring Kevin Butler!)

The new commercials featuring Kevin Butler for Sony and all of it’s awesomeness have been pretty amusing. The latest one however, featuring the brand new, super freaking awesome creative amazing shit I can’t think of anymore adjectives yet to describe the PlayStation Move.

The video also seems to take a jab at Nintendo and the Wii, commenting on the features like boxing (which wasn’t even shown), the way the controller is used as a gun, and that it has buttons (shot at Natal). Man, this thing is going to be crazy! I mean, I’m sure they had this in the works before Nintendo even came out with the Wii and it became a huge success.

DPrime Preview: Monster Hunter Tri

Dprime Preview MHtri white 585x320 DPrime Preview: Monster Hunter Tri

Online games don’t fare well on the Wii. Friend codes and a lack of a real online community really hurt the system’s online potential. But Capcom plans on giving Wii owners a title with a real online component with Monster Hunter Tri, a hack and slash title. While you may not have heard of the Monster Hunter series, it has been very successful in Japan. Most of the titles have made it to Europe and North America, but the sales of the series has been less than stellar in these regions. Monster Hunter Tri, the third major installment in the series, will be hitting North America and Europe next month. The demo is available now at Gamestop for free, but many locations are requiring a pre-order to get the demo. Of course, if they are giving you a hard time, you can always just pre-order it and then come back at a later date and cancel it.

Metroid: Other M gets a new trailer; this means CG and GP

Yup, we’re super stoked on Metroid: Other M as you probably already know by now, but this trailer just didn’t fill  my appetite very well. While the CG and the dramatic affects and voice-overs is great and all, there’s a distinct lack of gameplay that I can’t really jive with here.

I don’t see any shooting, and powersuits that outline the breasts in a sexy manner, no space pirates…there’s just something wrong here. I’m not going to take it out on the game and Team Ninja though. Yet.

Clearly the Wii is just a toy and not meant for entertainment

24682 109404 8527StupidPeoplePostersjpg 468x Clearly the Wii is just a toy and not meant for entertainmentI honestly thought that we were over the point where people, especially those in charge of companies or in a high position, say stupid shit that makes no sense about the Wii or other consoles. Well obviously that’s not over, as the former DICE CEO Fredrik Liliegrin, and now running Antic Entertainment sees the Wii as a virus. Just read the quote below to see what I mean:

…the Wii, to me, I would describe it as a Virus, that doesn’t stick. Everyone comes home, it’s a toy, people have got to realize the Wii is a toy, not an entertainment focused product. People come home, someone, they play Wii for a bit, feel it’s really cool, blah blah blah, they go out and buy one. Ask people how often they play the Wii, that are not the core game consumer that buys one because they have an Xbox 360 and a Wii or a PlayStation 3 and a Wii. The people that only own the Wii, ask that consumer how often they use their machine. They just don’t use it, it was cool, but they’re not gamers, so they put it away. Other than the Wii Fit phenomenon that helped a lot of people get a nice cutie voice telling that they’re fat and need to go work out, they need to find other alternatives. Nintendo is smart in that way in that they realize this is not a video game machine, this is not a games game machine.

The metaphor of the Wii being a virus pretty much ended after he said “I could describe it as a virus”, and I really don’t see what’s wrong with the Wii. I own a 360 and a Wii and would consider myself a “hardcore” gamer, but I love what comes out on the Wii, and it has it’s own merits. It’s not the same as the 360 or PS3, and it wasn’t meant to be, so that doesn’t mean you should totally shit on it.

I guess I just don’t get it.

DPrime Review: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

DPrime Review NSMBW DPrime Review: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

When Mario moved into the third dimension with Super Mario 64 it seemed like there was no looking back for console Mario titles, and for almost fifteen years that remained true. Now Mario has finally returned to the second dimension on home consoles with New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but it comes with a bit of a twist adding simultaneous multiplayer which is a first for the series. New Super Mario Bros Wii is also the debut of Nintendo’s Super Guide to help more casual players pull through the game. The additions of these features may give you the impression that New Super Mario Bros Wii is a side scrolling Mario title aimed at casuals, but fortunately that is far from the case.

New Metroid: Other M screens and art are full of awesome

ss movie 01 585x329 New Metroid: Other M screens and art are full of awesome

As if a release date for Cave Story wasn’t good enough, we’ve got some more screens thanks to GoNintendo for the upcoming Team Ninja and Nintendo game, Metroid: other M, which has a release date of June 27th.

The art style for the game looks really great, and everything looks like it’s coming together nicely. I’m stoked to see how the sidescrolling aspect of the game is going to play out, as there really hasn’t been anything like that on a console (albeit the morph ball in Metroid Prime), since Super Metroid.
