Best Video Game Animation of 2008: Kung Fu Panda

Wait a minute….Kung Fu Panda!? Well, that’s what the International Animated Film Society says. This video game, Dreamworks Animation’s movie of the same name just scored an Annie, beating out Dead Space and Wall·E. Wow!
The 36th annual Annie awards were held this past weekend honoring the best of anything animated, whether they are commercials, full-length movies, TV shows, and the like.
Activision’s Kung Fu Panda snatched the Annie “in recognition of creative excellence in the art of animation.” I haven’t played the game, but if the animation is that great, then who the fuck am I to argue with it?

2 Most Disappointing Console Exclusives of 2008
Oh exclusives, there both blessings and curses. They can hype the fuck out of a game console, and make it worth buying, then either keep it’s promises, or fail epicly and make everyone pissed as hell. There’s no doubt though, the two most dissapointing console exclusives in 2008 were, Haze for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, as well as Too Human for the Xbox 360.

The 10 Biggest Flops of 2008
Most of these are to no surprise to most gamers. Although I don’t consider LittleBigPlanet a flop due to just sales, it still didn’t sell well as it could have (good thing it was just an honorable mention).
1. Too Human
Sales: 0.5 million
Metacritic Score: 65Silicon Knights’ action-RPG is still best known for having been in development for over a decade, originally supposed to be released on the Playstation in 1999. Unfortunately, that is the most interesting thing about this game, which miserably failed to meet the sky-high expectations it had.

Console Exclusives Roundup 2008

There’s no doubt that Nintendo is going to “win” this generation in console exclusives. Since it’s release, 3rd parties have been clamoring to it and the new motion controls. This hasn’t been all good though, the Wii suffered a period where all of the releases were just pure shovelware. As you can see, Nintendo is rocking about 100 titles, Microsoft at 70, and Sony trailing behind in the distance at a mere 30. 2008 – the year of Nintendo!

The 10 worst PSP games of 2008
It almost pains me to read this, as I became a PSP owner earlier this year, but, it’s all truthful. Ever single game on the list is games that I’ve played, and I agree with all of them. The PSP has a ton of great and innovative games, but now’s not a time for optimistic people, cynicism will rule the world once and for all!
10. Manhunt 2
Developer: Rockstar
Publisher: Rockstar
Released: October
PG score: 5/10
Our beloved BBFC got its knickers into such a knot about this torture action game, we ended up waiting near to a year for it after its release in other territories. It finally emerged over Halloween with barely a ‘boo’ but then, as we’d already informed you in our US review written over 12 months earlier, it didn’t deserve anything more. The stealth sections of the game don’t work as well as they should, and now it’s been censored, the torture bits have lost their impact, too. Which leaves you with a well presented but uninspiring to play third-person action game that’s best forgotten.
