Microsoft says that the 360 doesn’t need blu-ray, but we already knew that

blu ray xbox 360 Microsoft says that the 360 doesnt need blu ray, but we already knew thatMicrosoft knows what the hell’s up when it comes to hi-definition and consoles, and red rings, and stuff like that. Speaking to CVG, Stephen McGill, the director of Xbox and Entertainment had some interesting information about the future of blu-ray and the 360.

“We have no plans to adopt [a] Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360. In fact, the future of home entertainment started last autumn when Xbox 360 became the first and only console to offer instant-on 1080p streaming HD movies.”

It makes sense. I mean blu-ray is the past, streaming HD movies on a video game console is the hear and now. Oh wait…yeah, what the fuck? Maybe in the Xbox 720 or whatever their next console is, but it is definitely surprising to hear that they have no plans of blu-ray on the 360. Oh well I guess, I don’t think that multi-layered discs could help at all..right?

IGN: Why DVD’s Better Than Blu-ray

blu ray IGN: Why DVDs Better Than Blu ray

Well, you don’t here this a lot. IGN has posted a pretty good list of why DVD’s are better than Blu-ray, and since I don’t own a Blu-ray player or a PS3…I agree with all of them! Click the link below to read the full post, and why DVD’s kick Blu-ray’s ass.

It’s Cheaper Than Blu-ray

Both DVD players and DVDs themselves remain affordable. Blu-ray releases tend to retail for an average of $10 more than their DVD counterparts (depending on the studio and title). Many DVDs are priced so cheaply that they could be considered impulse buys. Think about it… You probably wouldn’t own that copy of Renny Harlin’s Cutthroat Island had you not seen it in the checkout line display for $8.99. Would you have snatched up a Blu-ray version for double that price? Not nearly as likely.

Who will win the battle royal: Netflix HD or Blu-ray?

netflix hd Who will win the battle royal: Netflix HD or Blu ray?

Ever since the release of the NXE for the Xbox 360, and the release Netflix HD on teh 360,  people have been constantly asking how it matches up with that of Blu-ray, for the PlayStation 3. Obviously, they both offer HD content to a general public that knows very little about high-definition media and what it has to do with entertainment.

Well, here’s a snippet of what planetxbox360.com has to say:

Blu-Ray: It’s well-known that the major reason Blu-ray was able to conquer HD-DVD in the format war was the release of the Playstation 3, which had a built in Blu-ray player and was offered at a much lower price than anything the competition could sell. Once the format war was over and Blu-ray won it’s right to be the lone-provider of disc-based HD content to consumers most thought this was the end; it was Blu-ray or nothing (see below why this is not the case). Blu-ray has a ton of positive things going for it: 1) the resolution is unbeatable

Netflix HD: It was a big day when Microsoft announced that it’s New Xbox Experience (NXE) would include the option to use Netflix’s service right from the comfort of your own home via the Xbox 360 console. At first I was a bit skeptical but after some time with the service it has become a daily thing in our family’s home. If there is some down-time me and my wife pull up the Netflix webpage, put some movies in our queue and sit down to decide what to watch.
