Among things announced by Square Enix at E3, one of those was that Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions would be hitting the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game originally came out in 1997 on the PlayStation, and since has also made its way to the PSP as well. We don’t have much other than some screenshots and the announcement trailer, but the game will be hitting this year, and if you want to know more about it it’s 12 years old so I’m sure you can figure out all that you need to know.

A few days ago Resident Evil 4 was found in the Japanese App Store and was taken down almost immediately after. Capcom has stated that it will return sometime this month to the Japanese App Store. (legitimately)  If you don’t live in Japan Capcom says be patient it will be coming to the rest of the world soon after.

You can view the official rules and submit your ideas at http://www.tokitori.com/contest. You will be able to show the people at Two Tribes and Chillingo all of your original ways to promote Toki Tori on the iPhone. Need a starter idea? How about a viral youtube video, a cool website designed completely around Toki Tori, maybe someone painting their bodies like the character above, and running around naked through New York telling people to buy the game. Okay, don’t do that.

The contest begins today, and ends on June 26. Both of the production teams, Two Tribes, and Chillingo, will be judging the events and will be picking out the winners. The most creative entry in the contest will win a $200EU iTunes gift card, or Wii Points; a chicken to be adopted in your name, and a cool Toki Tori figurine. The runners up will just recieve the figurine.

I don’t own an iPhone, so I can’t say that I’ve tried the new 3.0 beta operating system, but Gizmodo has, and they have put together a nice list of features that have been added, and their own impressions. Click the link below to see more info and pictures.

Some notes:

• Note syncing is pretty great, even if it is almost two years late
• You can sync notes through MobileMe as well as through iTunes
• Your call list now shows the location the call came from (was hidden inside each call screen before)
• Spotlight is great and speedy unless you have nine pages of apps, then it’s SLOW
• MMS is currently broken (Could be because of AT&T plan, not because of the software – Thanks commenter!)
• There’s a new MobileMe locator option to locate your phone from MobileMe. This is possibly so you can see where you left your phone, or maybe even where the thief who stole your phone is? Not sure.

The iPhone isn’t doing as hot in Japan as it is in the States. That being said, the iPhone’s carrior, Softbank, is offering a free 8GB iPhone when you sign up for a contract.

Wired says the cause of this is the iPhone’s high monthly plan, lack of multimedia messaging support, and dependence on a computer for syncing as the main obstacles to popularity in Japan. Western companies historically have had trouble cracking the Japanese market (just ask Nokia and Microsoft how they’re doing).

There are so many genres on the iPhone and iPod Touch, well, there’s all of them! Shooters, puzzlers, drivers, action, and now “kiddy” games.

Atlantis Treasures brings SpongeBob to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game includes five themed rooms and a bevy of characters from the Nickelodeon show. What’s not to like about that?

Spin the 3D game board to match up falling jewels in the Treasure Room, explosive mines in the Weapons Room, molecules in the Science Room, paint blobs in the Art Room, and colorful bubbles in the Oldest Bubble Room. Earn points and amulets, but always stay on the lookout for special pieces – Color Blasts, Wild Cards, Row Blasts, and much more – they can help or challenge along the way. Keep matching skills honed and the treasures of Atlantis could be yours for the taking!

“There’s another Grand Theft coming but it’s not on the system you think it is. There’s another GTA that they haven’t announced yet, that’s not on a console. They haven’t announced it… but… It’s a handheld. There’s a handheld GTA coming”

Chinatown Wars has already been confirmed for the DS, so more than likely it’s not that. So, this only leaves the iPhone/iPod Touch, and the PSP as an option. I sincerely doubt that the PSP would even be considered as sales are slowing down not just for consoles, but for games as well.

Since Metal Gear Solid has been announced for the iPhone/iPod Touch, I think it would probably be most reasonable for the game to come out on those systems. What do you guys think?
