Final Fantasy XIII Fastest selling title in the franchise history in the UK
Yup, Square Enix has announced that their latest installment in the series, Final Fantasy XIII, is the fastest selling title in the franchise history in the UK. The game has already shipped more than 5 million units, and is topping UK charts and rockin’ the reviews (actually that’s not so good).
Either way, they’re pretty stoked about it. We’re pretty indifferent seeing as how it’s…yeah, is what it is.

Final Fantasy XIII is on the bottom of Ray Muzyka’s “to-play” list
I’m going to go out and say that I don’t own nor have I even touched Final Fantasy XIII yet. I’m a huge RPG fan and a big fan of the series, but just because of my lack of time and moolah, I can’t afford to get it. It’s also…not something that I’m really looking forward to. Just from reviews and what people have personally told me, well I’ve just lost a lot of excitement.
It looks like Ray Muzyka, one of the head honcho’s over at BioWare is pretty not-so-interested in the game as well, expressing this in a Game Informer interview.
“I’ve been reading some reviews on that one. That may be on the bottom of my list right now”
“It’s kind of a question mark. It would have been right up there before I read about it, but some of this other stuff is probably more pressing.”
I can totally see where he’s coming from on it. Although it will be really interesting to see what he has to say once he’s got around to playing the game (although I’m not sure that he has that many pressing things to do).

Final Fantasy I and II come out on the iPhone today
Actually a pretty hotly anticipated game, Final Fantasy I and II have been released for the iPhone and iPod Touch for $8.99 each. Above we’ve got the launch video for the game as well as some screenshots below. I’d be sure to check the game out, it sounds like the controls really work well with the system and I mean you can’t really beat two of the best retro RPG’s ever.
Just remember guys, the password is “Wild Rose”. Remember it well.

Don’t worry, Final Fantasy XI isn’t biting the dust…. yet
As if 6 years wasn’t long enough already, we’re getting more news via tweets that your guys’ precious Final Fantasy XI Online won’t be leaving soon. The tweet was made by Square Enix’s honcho Yoichi Wada (like his avatar?).
“There seems to be a rumor that FFXI is ending, but if that was done, we’d be in trouble.”
There’s still tons of people playing the game…I don’t know why, but they just are. So I guess everybody playing this has a while to keep hacking their way through the brand new online world that is FFXI.

Nothing but Final Fantasy spin-offs hitting the Wii
In a recent interview with Motomu Toriyama, director for the latest Final Fantasy games has revealed some interesting information that leaves little hope as to whether there would be an actual Final Fantasy installment on the Wii. I don’t think it’s happening.
“In terms of Final Fantasy in general, the teams are really aiming for movie quality graphics and really dramatic storylines. For now, at least, consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3 are the best place for this kind of cinematic experience to take place. We don’t feel that it needs to transition necessarily to a handheld platform.” - Motomu Toriyama, director
Seriously though, I like the high-def Final Fantasy games, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that I would really like to see some classic work done with the series. I could dig some 2D, sprites, or maybe a different art style (maybe less androgynous characters?). But why would that ever happen?
