Sega Still Supporting Hardcore Wii Gamers Despite Disappointing Mad World Sales

Wired recently had a interview with Sega’s president and COO Mike Hayes, the topic of the sales of Mad World and hardcore titles in general
It’s difficult because it was a critically acclaimed title (Mad World) ; it was extreme but good. The thing that we’re saying is, Sega would be extremely arrogant to have a title that didn’t do as well as we thought on a platform and then say, “Those kind of games don’t sell on that platform.”…MadWorld sales were very disappointing, but was that to do with the platform? Was it that people didn’t like the art style? Or that people didn’t like the way the game played through? It could be many things, which we’re obviously researching. – Sega President and COO Mike Hayes
Hayes was also asked about the possibilities of making more Hardcore games, despite the less then stellar and only some what successful House of the Dead: Over Kill and replied
Absolutely. You’ll see more games in that genre coming from us.
The Conduit sales have been fairly successful, hopefully the title will continue to sell much like Call of Duy World at War did on the Wii.

Nintendo of Canada Has No Plans On Replacing Wii Sports Pack In With Wii Sports Resort

“The long-term plan is difficult to say, but I can tell you that there are no plans to make Wii Sports Resort what is packed in with the Wii purchase. What is in the Wii box will remain the same. Wii Sports Resort will not replace Wii Sports. The intention with Wii Sports was to provide an out of the box experience for consumers and we want new consumers and non-owners to experience that just as everybody else has.”
While the Wii may not exclude Wii Sports soon, there is a possibility to pack in Wii Sports resorts as a second game, but chances are Nintendo won’t bother unless Wii Motion plus install base is low, but seeing that Wii Sports Resort has already moved 2 million units world wide, I think that won’t be a problem. They did say that they plan on continued support for Wii Motion plus
Read MoreIt won’t become the standard for all games because not all games need Wii MotionPlus or benefit from it for that matter. But in the future, yes, definitely Nintendo will be putting out a lot more games that use Wii MotionPlus, especially when it’s a game that warrants that type of experience and that type of precision.”

Can I Get A Rubber Ducky With That Wii?

As fake as it sounds… it is true. You can buy a Wii over at gamestop bundled with rubber duckies, water guns or pirate stickers. I really have no idea what gamestop was thinking, but knowing the casual audience I wouldn’t be too surprised if it took off…

Dprime Review: Punch-Out!!

After it’s disappearance for over 10 years the Punch-Out Franchise has finally returned. While many were overjoyed by the return of a old franchise many asked how much would change and could a game like punch out provide enough depth and game play to make it worth the full $50 value? While Nintendo promised that there would be enough content to justify your purchase, you can’t really trust the word of the one who’s trying to sell the game. Should Nintendo have left this franchise out of the ring, or can Punch-Out justify its place in the ring.
