World of Goo Dev: DRM is Unnecessary

Ron Carmel, co-founder of 2D Boy, the independent company that made the infamous World of Goo, shared strong advice to fellow indie developers about involvement of publishers and DRM.
“The most important thing to ask yourself is why you need publishers,” Carmel said.
After dealing with publishers and contracts for months, Camel learned this simple little fact:
“Our conclusion with publishers is… don’t do it,” Carmel said.
“Go with digital distribution,” Carmel said. “You don’t need publishers for this.”
With XBLA, WiiWare, Steam, and PSN, digital distribution allows indie devs to get their product to gamers.
Carmel also went on saying that DRM is a waste of time, and for devs not to worry about their game getting cracked or leaked across the internet.

World of Goo Piracy Numbers Prove DRM is Worthless
Wow, that really, really sucks. This just goes to show that DRM is worthless. 2D boy, the people that created World of Goo, estimate that the piracy rate for the game is %82. That’s really, really bad.
They made a post on their site, and did some research, and the piracy rate for the PC game is %90. Their game, which has no DRM, had around the same piracy rate as Ricochet Infinity, an independent game that does have DRM. Well, anybody that reads this should pick up the game and support these guys, because they’ve done a great job on the game, and put a lot of hard work into it. Don’t Support Piracy!
